WiseAss Thinkers

So a a new MMO beta test has come out for Fileplanet account holders, this new MMO is called Fallen Earth and I’m here to give my initial thoughts on the game from just playing the tutorial. I may write some more as i go along playing the game or I may stop playing it and these are my only thoughts. But before I do that you will want some information on the game and maybe a link to this Beta.

Fallen Earth is a post-apocolyptic MMO shooter, and if that sounds like a weird mash up well it is. It is set in the future or another planet, its not entirily clear which where the Human race has been ravaged by something and are living in a post apocolyptic wasteland. Maybe. Since I’ve only played a bit and none of that I ever saw the surface world so I’m only guessing here that there might be a wasteland for all I know you can’t go there and you can only explore undeground.

If you want to try the beta yourself go here.

Anyway on with the impressions

The character Screen in all MMOs

The character Screen in all MMOs

The first thing you see when you boot it up for the first time is the character screen where you will create your own personal alter ego, can’t really say much about this to be honest. Its not that extensive a list that you can choose from its pretty good but nothing to write home about really.

You can even change how hairy the character looks

You can even change how hairy the character looks

You basically choose from a range of heads and Hairstyles, change how tall the person is, even put some tatoos on their body. You can pretty much change nearly everything, but sooner or later your going to come across someone who looks like you because as  said its not that extensive.

The Charactor I made

When you first get into the actual game you will definitly be confused, it doesn’t exactly tell you what to do it does tell you how to move though I guess thats a plus. Its a bit dioritating it but you eentually get used to it. I just wished it was a little better at getting you into the game.

The first room you get sent to. What you don't hear is a woman constantly badgering you. So Annoying.

The first room you get sent to. What you don't hear is a woman constantly badgering you. So Annoying.

The first thing your meant to do, constantly being sprouted by a woman, is to go to a computer terminal and complete the womans quests. The first quest is basically activating another terminal right next to the one. Its pretty easy to talk its usually left click. After you have done that you are told to go into the next room where you need to get a weapon thankfully there is an axe stuck into a person which you can take.

The axe that you pick up...not very leathal but it will do

After that you come up to a soldier that you have to kill, with this you find about aim mode which makes your mouse cursor dissapear and lets you have control of your weapon. Let me tell you this is quite fiddly at first constantly switching between Aim and Normal Mode to kill and then pick up items. But as with everything i nthis game you kind of get used to it after awhile.

I would feel sorry for him if he wasn't badguy

I would feel sorry for him if he wasn't badguy

On his person is a much better weapon which is an machine gun which is pretty cool to be honest, you will be using it a lot in this tutorial section. After that you go into a room where some bad guys are shooting at some people. This is really the first time you get into combat. Combat is definitly different from other MMOs, you don’t wait and then auto attack its basically like a third person shooter but it has maths which means underneath the hood it basically says whther you hit or not and how much damage you do.

Third Person shooter more then MMO combat

Third Person shooter more then MMO combat

That combat was a bit easy since I was no where nearthe badguys and there wern’t shooting at me but I wonder how much harder it will get later on. I’m told to talk to the guys and get some med packs which I do. This is going to be your lifeline I guess in the coming game.

The Med Packs you need

After that you come across some more people and you get a quest which tells you need to heal people. Now the quest system is pretty much like any other MMOs you go to an NPC talk to them and get the quest and then you do that quest and then go back to them for the reward. Pretty standard MMO stuff here. The quest I had to do was also like an MMO, I had to heal them and to do that I just pressed a button waited and then they got healed. So the combat is faster but everything else you have to wait for.

She's Healed pretty much like any other MMO

Then when that was done I had to get into more combat, and to be honest its not that hard. Even though these guys had guns they didn’t touch me and I just wiped them out.

Just wiping out another group...

I then went and explored some more, theres a lot of walking and to be honest it isn’t that eventful since its just boring corridor after boring corridor. I met some more guys and I was told I had to buy a power supply from a merchant this was pretty easy to do just choose what I wanted to buy and then it was in my pack. Though to be honest there was no easy way to see how much money I had on me so that could prove difficult later on.

All the stuff you need is from the Merchant

Oh and just to say, yes that is in first person, I randomly came by it and I’m using it quite a lot now. It pretty much makes the game into a first person shooter now. With some bad graphics and jerkiness to it anyway.

Expect these kind of graphical glitches pretty often

After that I was asked to rescue some citizens…and I did it. I don’t know how rally, there was these guards and I went near them…there din’t seem to be any shooting and they walked off and dissapeared . That was not that great but at least I passed it. Anyway after that I went on and there was some more bad guys except these were close combat ones. it was definitly to easy to stay above them and snipe them and even when I was down there i just hung back and shot them so it was definitly to easy.

They will never touch me hahaha

They will never touch me hahaha

And a quick not, going down the ladders is just totally rubbish, very fiddly and you can never really get it right. Apprantly you press Down to go down ladders but your facing forwards when you do it…its very weird.

Ladders my only weakness

Ladders my only weakness

After that more boring corridors then more shooting random guards and someone wanting to get to the supply closet back a way. It isn’t very exciting this in fact its getting a bit monotonous hopefully something exciting will happen soon.

Another woman wanting my help...*Yawn*

Another woman wanting my help...*Yawn*

But after that at last you find the woman that has been badgering you the whole time and you get some answers. Apprantly your a clone and that the guards are employed by the person who runs this Dam where everyone lives, and you have to escape. pretty simple to be honest.

The annoying woman...shame you can't kill her

After that you go down an elevator where you told a big beasty is behind a door and you got to et the rocket launcher that is conviently placed there. Hurrey for God!

Yay Rocket Launcher! Now were talking

Yay Rocket Launcher! Now were talking

Unfortunatly the big beastie that was out there was big but was as easy as the rest of the fights I have had down here. It was very anti-climatic and made me worry that all the combat was going to be like this. Say what you will to traditional MMO combat but at least it was a bit harder.

Killed in two hits...that was dissapointing

Killed in two hits...that was dissapointing

Anyway after that was the most exciting sequence in the section, you get into a quad bike thing which has a bomb which you have t take out of the compound. You have a time limit and people standing around blocking your way. To be honest its actually quite rubbish.

It may not look like it but actually I am driving

It may not look like it but actually I am driving

Its very slow you get stuck in every bit of scenery and even surprisingly the people who you would think would at least get ran over but no. Your trundling on and its quite jerky and the badguys are just standing there not really doing anything. Its not very exciting no…but at least they tried.

Like the end of Halo..but jerkier

Like the end of Halo..but jerkier

Anyway at the end of it the bomb blows up and you go into this white light. Where the funniest sequence comes up in the game.

Look into the light Caroline

Look into the light Caroline

It tells you basically that you died of an explosion and that you have to get to this place where you can get your immprtality back. I can’t really explain why its funny here you just have to experience it for yourself. The woman tells you what you have to do and then you wake up.

I'm supposed to go here apprantly

I'm supposed to go here apprantly

After that brief bit of information you come around you you go to a terminal where an important decision has to be reached which can change the game for you. Basically you choose between Combat, Support, and crafting. Basically this is where you will go next and what specialisation you will do; combat is well combat with guns, support is I guess healing and weakening the enemy, and crafting is making weapons and armour and i have no idea how they will do any fighting.

Quite an important game decision

Quite an important game decision

After that you get transported to another location, unfortunatly it wasn;t a location above ground which means more endless corridors. i don’t know if any of the other decisions were above ground but i could go insane with all this montony.

A new location but its not outside

A new location but its not outside

And that was Fallen Earth tutorial my first impressions is that the combat is definitly different but currently a bit to easy, everything else is standard MMO though. The enviroments aren’t really doing anything for me, there to bland and just go on and on. The graphics aren’t that great, and theres loads of graphics glitches and jerkiness. To be honest this is well done but theres no spark there to keep me playing for awhile. The only freshness is the combat and that gets old after awhile.

I may play some more I may not, but to be honest I won’t be getting this MMO when it is released, theres just nothing there to grip me. i will be getting Star Trek Online, Guild Wars 2, and Final Fantasy XIV instead.
